The game was running fine otherwise. However, after some time I won the 1000 credits, and the game did the fanfare showing I won and then continued. I did not receive anything in my ticket counter from the 1000 credit win.

You pressed the left control button to leave the machine before it had initiated the payout process, which sadly means you won’t get the tickets that it was supposed to print out.
To avoid this you need to wait with exiting the machine until after it has displayed the massive ticket icon that appears on the screen when you get the ticket payout.
