Plaza Improvements

@Johanna spent time last week down-scaling the Plaza by 15%. There were several reasons this was done.

  1. The plaza will feel a bit less intimidating, and more cozy.
  2. Distances between objects have been slightly decreased. For example, the lighthouse and roller coaster are the same size as before, but the distance between them is 15% smaller.
  3. Some areas and doorways around the main plaza are no longer cartoonishly large in comparison to the player. The world no longer feels like a world for giants.
  4. These changes only affect the plaza. No other part of the game is affected.
  5. Not all areas of the plaza have been downsized. The main areas have been, but several interiors, such as the theater, laser tag, bowling, and casino, have not.
  6. The smaller main areas will increase the ratio of players to empty space, making the plaza more fitting for the current number of players.

@Johanna also started preparing Lobby 3 for the holiday events, setting up the event system to allow for Halloween and Winter props to be spawned, as well as fog and snow.

Zombie Massacre: Acrophobia

@Lifeless continued working on Acrophobia.

Bug Fixes / Optimizations

@Sketchman continued working on fixing the networking issues regarding Workshop models. He also fixed a bug where new players would have their unit count listed as -1, and started setting up the new in-house server browser.

@Caboose700 finished working on the in-house server browser (which provides for easier server look up and matchmaking) solution.

Wrap It Up

That about covers everything that happened since September 16th, 2019 at PixelTail Games. See you all next week!

It’s toggle-able in the settings, and the setting already exists in the game now.

Looking FRESH as HECK. Well done, can’t wait for all these sparkly new things.

Damn, loving the cards for the plaza map, some of those look new (And the map itself is godlike).

Hopefully the Arial font for that “Tower Unite Official Server” text in the top left is a placeholder though

I don’t want to see a beginner’s disappointment at a plaza full of vomit

Can there be some optimizations in regards to disabling milestone weapons in condos?

Vomit decals have peaked my excitement!

(And the other stuff ofc)

Super pumped to see everything here implemented into the game!

This. I loved the vomit decals back in GMT and excited to see them in TU finally.

I couldn’t think of a suitable place to post this, so here seems good.

The whole vomit decal thing is kinda… really weird. When I saw it, I was like “Nice! Glad they got around to finishing up the vomit system”, and after seeing people’s opinions on it, I’m kind of questioning my sanity.

It is an objectively strange and grotesque thing to add to a party game, it’s kind of funny, and weird, and a part of GMT’s charm, but I guess… it hasn’t aged well? I’m not sure, maybe it’s a remnant of an older, edgier (Not necessarily better) sense of humour, that has faded in recent years.

It’s just hard to explain to most people why this was at all needed, let alone something to be excited about. Maybe it is just the rose tinted glasses of GMT that make realistic vomiting sound like a cool addition (And isn’t that really strange out of context?). It’s just quite odd is all, especially if whether decals should default to on is an issue.

Don’t mind me, just philosophically pondering vomiting mechanics.

Who doesnt want to ruin someones condo floor by vomiting on it

I love the vomit particles!

don’t take it so seriously

I don’t have any problems with adding it (In fact, I’m happy to see it), but I’ve seen people here and in Discord taking some issue with it, and I thought they had a fair point. There isn’t a good rebuttal other than “it’s funny haha”, so I felt like rambling a bit about it. I know I’m being a bit of a downer, but I don’t think people’s opinions should be disregarded.

I just think of it as the problem of
Should the setting be turned off for the first time to avoid upsetting some people
Or should it stay on to avoid people never knowing it was a setting in the first place

I’m in favour of it being on automaticity for the first time, if people who don’t like it encounter it, much like blocking a player model you don’t want to see, you can just go into the settings and turn it off since it’s better to know the setting is there and turn it off if you don’t want it, than to have a setting there lots of people will never know about
