It seems that the new video player is incapable of running twitch streams such as Saltybet. ---

Thank you for the info Caboose. I was also wondering if the in-game web browser that was discussed some time ago (essentially the media player but with the ability to navigate pages) would be a part of the solution for this, or would that be dependent on the Steam browser? ---

It is, but it seems that a part of having a functional web browser in game would include the ability to support playback on a number of sites outside of Youtube, such as Twitch. So if that feature is not dependent on the steam browser then it’s development could kill two birds with one stone. Media players could then just be a navigation restricted version of that feature.
