The Road to 1.0

The Proton port has been very stable. We have a developer who uses Linux daily and they play Tower through Proton exclusively. We are suggesting that Linux users use Proton to enjoy Tower.

Proton on Linux PCs is not the same thing as on Steam Deck, and I’ve been experiencing some freezes and crashes, particularly when being in a loaded plaza and the game is trying to load (too) many models at once. If you can have one Steam Deck unit to help optimize this bug before/during 1.0, it would be great.

But nonetheless, thanks for this game. It’s a pleasure to hop in and experiencing it.

Genuinely excited for y’all. I have continued to keep a close eye on development, reading many of the dev logs and hopping in-game to check out how things have been progressing.

I’ll continue to recommend Tower to friends, shouting out sales and bundles and stuff. Thank you lot for not abandoning the project, and even getting better over time.

I’d love to see the game have a boom in playerbase once 1.0 comes out, y’all deserve it :purple_heart::purple_heart::purple_heart:

i spent 1100+ hours in this game, this game is my absolute comfort game. brought tower unite for my friends many times, I made so many great memories and made a lot of new friends in this game so hearing about future plans got me extremely hyped up, i have very good feelings about this!! <3

i’m happy that game will continue to receive updates!! i’m also especially excited about increased game stability and performance! i absolutely look forward to colorable wearables, cooking, new game worlds, new maps, ocean expansion, new boardwalk games, pretty much everything honestly. haha!

i was wondering if we were gonna have announcements since all of big planned features got added like movers, SDKs, etc so i’m very happy lol

keep the amazing work up, devs I believe in you all!!

i’m curious about colorable wearables; what would happen to certain items like colored paper crowns? Would they be merged and rewritten as white to become colorable? Or we get “colorable” version of these going forward? We could potentially have white items as colored backpacks, angel wings, santa hats, flower crowns, glasses, capes, and so on! there’s a HUGE potential with this feature

My biggest most absolute concern is just. The movement, latency, hitboxes and general feel in control in this game generally still feel very very jank and unpolished.

These were changes I was hoping would be massively addressed and overhauled years ago, and absolutely must happen before proper release.

Rubber banding basically always happens in this game. Game worlds just feel janky for clients where only the host has the best experience. Plaza and condos hardly function when over a dozen players are present. Which is questionable for a big community multiplayer experience. GMTower wasn’t perfect but still did some things better than Tower Unite. Things I’m still hoping this game corrects.

Sorry if this comes off kinda rude. I genuinely want the best for this game.

I didn’t noticed the upcoming 1.0 update before I head to sleep! I hope I can support Canadian French translation to Tower Unite.

Best of luck to the devs!

To quote a certain someone:-

After 9 years of development, hopefully it would have been worth the wait.

Don’t be discouraged, guys. Final Fantasy VII Remake I believe took 15 years to develop? (And the first trailer didn’t emerge until 2015.)

I am upgrading my Patreon subscription to uppermost tier as I have the disposable income to do so.

Might I suggest offering additional benefits per each Patreon tier? You will incentivise others to do the same. If all Patreon tiers offer the same benefits, most will only choose to pay for the least expensive tier.

Might I also suggest running another backer campaign?

Might I also suggest that any under utilised servers be taken out of the equation? I’m guessing you guys are on a rolling annual rental plan so this might not be immediately feasible.

For real, this needs to be a SDNL mutator, and I think maybe Laser Tag should be also.

I can’t agree more with this. Its something extremely pervasive and that has been mentioned tons of times, I put it in each of my player survey responses as well. This should be priority number one for 1.0 in my opinion.

This is a very good day indeed. Getting out of EA and what not.

Remember to advertise to your friends, family, co workers, etc. in the meantime so we can keep the game up and running. Even when we see TU out of EA then and with VR that more people will be likely to buy which will be AWESOME!!! :+1:

Apart from previously mentioned netcode issues, I really want the amount of grinding in the game to be addressed. It seems more like a way to pad out content at the moment but for a new player it is absolutely daunting to jump into the game and realize you cannot earn most of the items in the game without investing hundreds of hours into it. Some may persist precisely because of that, but I think the majority would be turned away.

As I mentioned in the survey, translation should start before the 1.0 release.
On STEAM, games that do not support your language will be excluded from recommendations and you will miss out on sales opportunities.

I’ll definitely give a hand for French translation if these has to come before 1.0 or near.

Regarding VR, (not mentioned in the op, post-release 1.0?) I think Tower is a great fit for it, but player customization could be expanded for becoming a more desirable VR game to prospective players, which could make the extensive work required for it all the more worthwhile.

Additions such as “default” player model facial customization, hairstyles, (more) accessories and accessory categories, clothing options (other than a handful of presets), coloring options for everything down to hair highlights. How feasible this is, or desirable, isn’t up to me. But I’d love to see a more “personal” way for the average player to customize their looks, beyond non-colorable workshop models/accessories. This would also afford the opportunity for additional progression based, non buyable, cosmetics, which helps player retention.

Congrats to TU for finally getting around to finishing 1.0 leaving early access! There’s been a wacky argument that has been questioning the length of TU’s EA period while ignoring the huge changes TU has made.

I’ve never played GMT, I got TU from HB and have completed 400+ hours, TU is the longest game I’ve ever played on steam, bar none. I’ll definitely be involved in contributing to the localization of TU if conditions allow. And will fulfill my support for TU by buying DLC and Ko-fi.

The libretro feature is my favorite TU content, thanks to Mac’s work over the years, I’ll keep playing!

I was but a child back in the days of GMT and I remember just how excited I was for Tower Unite. Now I am a withering old person (early 20s) with bills and the sort, but I’m still as excited for the future of this game as I was back then.
Seriously though, even seeing the words 1.0 is a bit surreal. Little by little and step by step Tower has been fitted and formed to reach a goal I’m sure many of us have forgotten even existed. I know we’re not there yet, but the fact it’s even in sight is phenomenal.

My two cents while you’re still in early access is to remember that there are no sacred cows. Don’t be hesitant to touch or change or obliterate something in fear of disrupting the status quo. This time for experimentation and change is incredibly valuable and should be taken advantage of, come hell or high water.
Organization, implementation, and smoothing rough edges are the boring minutia that matter the most and I’m so glad to see that there’s such a big focus on the little things with this announcement.

I cannot even fathom the multitude of angles, logistics, perspectives, and priorities that need to be kept in check when making a game like this. Ambition is a killer, anybody else would’ve caved by now, be proud of yourselves. Seriously.
Dreaming is easy, getting it done is painful; stretch that out over nigh on twenty years and there’s no greater proof of genuine passion to be found.

Here’s to the long haul. Best of luck and congratulations, we’re with you every step of the way.

Very well said! It’s important to give the devs not only some wiggle room for trying new things and encourage that experimentation is important. BUT consider all the backlash even if temporary that’s faced for daring to try something.

No matter what steps you take forward you’re bound to make waves and get hot takes in response. I remember when Tower Unite was announced everyone was freaking out and saying how they don’t want it and yet even as a huge fan of GMT, I think Tower Unite is LEAGUES above the former.
I can’t imagine going back, and I really feel that those that praise it as superior are cherishing the memories of what was. I have them too, I’ll always have a special place for Gmod Tower in my heart, but I put my trust in Pixeltail to re-invent the world that they once made and I’m still blown away with what we got.

To make an omelet you have to crack a few eggs. Anyone who points fingers casting accusations would find themselves in a similar position if they were facing the hardships you are in being told “THE GAME ISN’T READY”
Well as it stands everyone complains that the game is STILL in early access. The only reason being that the game isn’t done yet. I’ve always said putting a number on it and calling it 1.0 is not going to magically fix everything and bring in all the content.

As far as I’m concerned the dream is alive and well. Tower Unite is not only the present but also the future and I can’t wait to see what’s next.

I say it a lot and I always mean it.
Keep it up Pixeltail, proud of you for coming as far as you have.
