For the detective, the trip to the small town of Fyrstaden was a long journey, but it was part of his job. The small town was much colder than Stockholm in October. As soon as he alighted from the train, he walked through the town, which was quiet and felt vacant. He went to the church, where he found a man to ask about his case. The detective asked if there had been any strange activity in the area recently, to which the man said no, but told the detective to talk to the lighthouse keeper. The detective thanked him and continued towards the lighthouse. There were a few clues found by the detective, including a log detailing recent ships passing through the area and a hatch leading to an abandoned underground facility in the lighthouse. As he walked though the empty rooms, it became apparent that the facility had been suitable for hundreds of employees. He proceeded down an elevator, and it became clear that the lighthouse keeper was no where to be seen either.
After finding some mysterious red roots that looked like they came from trees, the detective began to wonder what had really happened to the scientists. As the detective continues to investigate, he notices some papers on a table. He sits down and begins to examine them. They are notes from the scientists about their work. After a brief look thought the notes, the detective derives that the scientists were studying this red tree-like plant whose characteristics they had never seen before. To the detective, it was unclear where the roots had come from, and the notes revealed no truths about their origin. The scientists had disappeared, but no further clues could be found within the notes, so the detective put the notes down and continued forward. As the detective navigated a disarrayed chemistry lab, he noted that there must have been something seriously wrong with this facility that caused the scientists to evacuate.
He finds himself standing on a balcony atop an enormous laser beam that is opening a portal to another dimension. The machine that was powering the laser seemed to be making a very loud and distinct mechanical noise. The detective couldn’t figure out how to turn off the laser beam, so he went back to the small control room in an attempt to understand how to turn it off. Unable to turn it off, the detective realizes that all the scientists could have gone thought the portal. Ever interested in finding the truth, the detective decides to forgo reason and jump into the portal.
The detective was standing in a world that was starkly red in color. There were plenty of trees that were also discernibly vividly red. It seemed as though the red trees in this world were the ones the scientists had been studying, despite being a different shade of red. He also notes the presence of a large wooden gate that appeared to have been constructed out of the roots. The detective picks up a seed and puts it in his pocket, then continues to walks through the gate. The detective thinks to himself that perhaps this actually is the place where the scientists had disappeared to. Soon after, he hears a noise coming from the other side of the tree, it was clearly mechanical. He walks around the tree and through the gate to find a monumentally sized robot. In the center of the robot’s chest seemed to be a power source that matched the hue of the energy coursing thought the adjacent pillars. Despite lacking human support at the moment, the latent energy seemed powering some sort of scanning functionality. It looked to the detective as though the robot had been abruptly abandoned. Had the scientists been utilizing the exoteric crystalline energy to power a behemoth construction project? This was not the case he had signed up for.
