What was gmt like?

It was like if you were playing a giant game of checkers where the red squares were replaced with purple ones.

I am from Argentina and I had 2mb at the moment so I just played a few hours because the others, the game was or downloading assets or with “Connection failed after 4 retries” message.

Imagine Tower Unite with more features
BUT
It’s on an older game engine

It had tetris

In gmod tower, there were lobby events such as dog fight, ballon popping, Obama cutouts, snowball fights, and chainsaw battles.

There were purchasable 1V1 death match fights where players would bet their own money. Winner gets all of the money, obviously.

Instead of everyone doing their own thing in Tower Unite, in gmod tower people would socialize. Lobby 1 was smaller meaning denser concentration of people. So, it wasn’t a HUGE barren wasteland with no sign of life even with 50 players on a server.

The community was better because you had to own a game and download a bunch of addons. The community doesn’t come from little kids that like vanoss.

You couldn’t make canvases which is good in a way because there were no furry porn filled condos… Well, maybe with an exception of the “questionable rabbit” poster… and YouTube… But I’ve never seen any suits/condos like that!!!

Back then, you could customize your condo/suite while waiting on gamemodes.

There weren’t tiny games such as typing durby, instead there was a huge water park where players would get into inflatable rings while someone else would use a firework launcher to glitch those people out of the map!

There were a more gamemodes such as zombie massacre, source karts, and PVP battle. Little Crusaders (Ultimate Chimera Hunt in gmod tower) had a LOT more maps, which had better design in my opinion.Virus was better back then. PVP battle was my favorite believe it or not.

I hope SDNL will turn out better than Virus did. Tower Unite is constantly expanding so I can only hope for the best.

go to bar
get drunk
get in a fist fight with link
barf all over him

pretty much the gist of it.

It was largely the same, except it felt much more lively and copyright-infringing.

Basically, everything had to be done through the lobby, even buying hats for your character from a dedicated store. The lobby was more condensed and feature-packed, so people were forced closer together, and everything was all in one instance, so you could just walk in and out of peoples condos without having to disconnect. It was just a cozy thing to join in and hang out. It was also my go-to when I was working a third-shift job and would get home anywhere from 3-7am in the morning and needed a game with people to interact with.

I hope they consider a radical redesign of the plaza’s layout in the future to capture that feeling. As it is right now, everything feels too grand yet empty, like when you rejoin a dying MMO you used to play and see these huge important towns pretending to be bustling, but the only regular encounters are the NPCs; like the beach house area they added, and the roof of the tower.

Of course a large part of this is now everyone can host their own instance of everything, which is a definite benefit, but something was lost along the way, you know? That’s just progress.

Imagine TU but alot smaller, only two servers, and copyrighted characters. For Example: you could have Sackboy plushies, skins were Half Life 2 Characters or something else completely, we had a ‘Not Tetris’ game, various OMGPOP games emebbeded into arcade machines, and lots of Obama Cutouts.

and one user had special Hatsune Miku stuff.

Every hour a random event would happen in the plaza, which could be a dogfighting plane game, random death matches, present collecting, whatever.

It was a great time.

I forgot to mention, it was so ambitious, you could defenetly tell Source could just barely handle all of it.

You literally NEEDED counter strike source to be able to look at the map without seeing pink everywhere

Actually I bought CS:S for CS:S, but using it for GMT was just a bonus.

It was a great few years. RIP GMT
