Updates do not follow a chronological order. These numbers are in separate categories indicating the importance/scale of an update. The reason this is 0.3.0.0 is because it is a significant update from the content in 0.2.2.0. You may recall that when TU upgraded to Unreal Engine 4.14, added new maps, and added Little Crusaders, the game moved from 0.1.9.1 to 0.2.0.0.
In the numbering system, it’s sorted like:
[Early access/alpha/beta=0, Full release=1].[Significant update version].[Big patch].[Minor patch/hotfix]

The smooth transition is only visual for the first person camera.


Also, the official numbering for updates is: [release candidate].[engine update or major systems change or new game world].[new feature or new map].[hotfix and minor changes]
