Hey there guys, I have just started hosting a dedicated server on a rack I have at home for me to play with my friends, however, we noticed the Casino was out of order (the main reason we wanted to host locally).
I then searched a bit and found @macdguy 's post about why it was closed.
While I understand the issue with a MITM attack and why you guys are disabling it, I see no alternative for the official servers. The official servers right now are extremely laggy for us and the casino is basically impossible to use (we live in Brazil - our average ping to the server is 90+), when we click on Double or Nothing or roll the Whell of Money thing, it just teleports all over the place, it really feels off.
Understanding that those are randomly generated upon pressing the button (I’m also a developer), it’s still weird to just see the wheel kinda cheat on you (feels rigged). This without mentioning the issues with Lazer Tag which lags all over the place.
So, with the upcoming removal of support for the community hosted servers, we see no alternative but to play on these laggy US-based servers, which kinda destroys the whole hype of playing anything on the plaza (which right now has the biggest combination of mini-games in the whole game!).
So I ask you for an alternative to locally hosted servers before you guys remove the thing for good. Ping does matter and right now it’s not good for us down here (and probably also a lot of other people around the world).
Dedicated condos and community condos are going to be an awesome addition, but the majority of the gameplay is still on the Plaza and at least for now, I can’t seem to find an alternative to that. (They want to center players around the plaza - just look at the Trello - full of plaza integrations, so we need to at least make the plaza usable for everyone ).
I’ve always been iffy on the Community Condo thing for this reason alone. Unless Condos can provide activities that rival the plaza or offer a sense of progression like gaining units, they really can’t replace dedicated plaza servers.
Don’t get me wrong, building and lounging with friends is awesome and I’m glad we’re getting community condos, but without activites, there isn’t much point.
That’s not really an alternative since he wants to play in the casino. There’s not gonna be a casino in any of the community condos. What we need is at least one South American server
With these core points, we can’t offer community dedicated Plaza servers, even today, sorry.
That’s why Community Condos are the route we’re taking. We will have more condo activities, but not everything can replace the Plaza activities.
And it’s not just a simple MITM attack, it’s straight up that non-official dedicated hosts can easily just give Units to players unless we spend a lot of time developing a solution for that.
I guess adding an official server to our region would be the best option (unless you want us excluded from plaza activities?), considering there doesn’t seem to be a way to address the cheating issue.
However, I do understand that it’s not easy to find a decent hosting provider around here (and that it’s not cheap!), so may we at least have that “South America Servers” line added to the TODO list?
the only problem is, that the game could randomly get alot of new players and they could fill the plazas plazas, or if a few american servers go down, the other american ones can be used for backup, same with frankfurt and the rest of the regional servers
Idk(I dont know) if another person has said this yet, but the teleporting wheel(which defintley makes it feel rigged, i know it’s not) happens to me and i live in america. But this sounds great although i think it might be hard for the devs(i might be wrong) but, i do think they should work on this. btw(by the way) I love Brasil(Brazil) It is were my grandma was raised and your english is off the charts! also, send me a private message of what games you have worked on and what is it like devolping a game( I might want to do it myself one day!).
